U.S. Sanctions Information Affecting U.S. Citizens

The United States Government has imposed different types of sanctions against Burma. These sanctions have an impact on private U.S. citizens traveling to Burma, investing in Burma, or bringing items back to the U.S. from Burma. We encourage all U.S. citizens traveling to Burma to read the section titled Import Ban. Most items purchased in Burma may not be brought back to the U.S., even tourist items for personal use.

There are three categories of Sanctions that U.S. citizens should be aware of. Click on the menu items under US Sanctions on the left to find out specific information.

For details on sanctions and Burma, visit the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s site by clicking here, or use the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) Info-by-Fax service at 202-622-0077.
