American English Language Classes

Spring term courses are currently filled, and we are no longer taking any new students.

Please check back on this website at the end of June, or look for our brochure at the American Center, to learn when to register for our special, four-week “Monsoon Season.” Monsoon Season takes place from August 13-Sept 07 and will offer enrichment and elective courses, but no core classes.

Monsoon Term Class Offerings, August 13-September 07, 2007: (PDF/364KB)

Core Classes English Level 1 (Beginner) – Designed for beginning students of English who are interested in improving their proficiency in the spoken and written word.

English Level 2 (High Beginner) – Designed to improve students’ proficiency in all four skill areas: speaking, listening, writing and reading.

English Level 3 (Low Intermediate) – Expands on key grammar forms introduced in the beginner courses. Students also begin to focus on improving pronunciation.

English Level 4 (Intermediate) – Students use all four skill areas to discuss many topics, including cultural expectations, household problems and solutions, and opinions.

English Level 5 (High Intermediate I) – This class is designed to improve writing skills, with an emphasis on essay writing.

English Level 6 (High Intermediate II) – Students are lead through a variety of English language activities that greatly improve critical thinking skills.

Electives

English for Academic Purposes – Offered on a regular basis, this is the American Center’s most challenging class. Intended for students with an advanced level of English who are preparing to study abroad.

TOEFL Preparation Course – Students will review and build on English skills tested by the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) in a systematic way.

American Plays – This new course offers students the opportunity to analyze the English language and themes through the exploration of plays written by the greatest American playwrights.

English Enrichment: “Connect with English” – Students improve their listening comprehension skills through an entertaining, new video series.
