About Student Advising Services
To help students who are planning to go and study in the United States, the following services are offered at the American Center:
- Administration of Standardized Tests such as the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), and Graduate Record Examinations (GRE).The paper-based TOEFL and GRE tests will continue to be offered in 2009/2010. Definite dates will be announced when they become available.
TOEFL is offered five times in one testing-calendar year. This year it will be offered on the following dates: August, October, November, 2009, January and May, 2010.
The GRE General is offered twice a year; October, 2009, and February, 2010.
The GRE Subject Tests will be offered on October, November, 2009, and April, 2010.
- Certification of Educational Transcripts:This service is offered every Tuesday and Thursday for a fee of 5,000 kyats per document. Original documents have to be shown and three copies of each certified document will be provided.
- Student advising services are offered on a one-on-one basis every Tuesday and Thursday. Handouts or reference books are given out occasionally depending on the availability of materials and needs of the students. FAQ booklets are also available to be picked up at the center so that students can come well prepared for the advising sessions.
A monthly “Scholarship Information Sharing program” takes place on the last Thursday of each month. Students need to be on the lookout for announcements to sign up for attendance. Peterson’s Books on “Applying to Universities and Colleges in the States” (for both undergraduate as well as graduate studies) are on sale at the Center.
