About Student Advising Services
To help students who are planning to go and study in the United States, the following services are offered at the American Center:
- Administration of Standardized Tests such as the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), and Graduate Record Examinations (GRE).
TOEFL is offered five times in one testing-calendar year. This year it will be offered on the following dates: August 18, October 13, November 10, 2007, January 12 and May 10, 2008.
The GRE General is offered twice a year; October 27, 2007, and February 2, 2008.
The GRE Subject Tests will be offered on October 6, November 3, 2007, and April 12, 2008.
- Certification of Educational Transcripts:This service is offered every Tuesday and Thursday for a fee of 5,000 kyats per document. Three copies of each certified document are provided.
- Student advising services are offered on a one-on-one basis every Tuesday and Thursday. Handouts or reference books are given out occasionally depending on the availability of materials and needs of the students. FAQ booklets are also available to be picked up at the center so that students can come well prepared for the advising sessions.
Group sessions on “Applying to Colleges and Universities in the States: the Application Process” and “Pre-departure Orientation” sessions are also offered twice a year. Students need to be on the lookout for announcement of dates and time.
Peterson’s Books on “Applying to Universities and Colleges in the States” (for both undergraduate as well as graduate studies) are on sale at the Center.
