Bomb in Shwe Gon Daing
Date: January 17, 2007
This Warden Message is to inform the American community that on the afternoon of January 15, 2007, at the Shwe Gon Daing Post Office in Bahan Township, a letter bomb exploded. Minimal damage was reported and a Burmese citizen was injured. Burmese authorities reported two other letter bombs were found at the General Post Office in Kyauktada Township, but they were disabled before they could detonate. Burmese authorities have no suspects or further information at this time.
U.S. citizens traveling or residing in Burma should remain vigilant about security at all times. Americans should strictly observe personal security precautions, be aware of their surroundings, and vary the routes and times of their daily activities. Americans in Burma should avoid crowded public places, including shopping areas, malls and markets, large public gatherings, and any area cordoned off by security forces. The Embassy encourages Americans in Burma, including short term visitors, to register with the Embassy in Burma. Registration may be done on-line at http://rangoon.usembassy.gov.
